All materials on the Website are intended to serve an educational purpose for educators and students. The Stanford Virtual Field Trips project, accessible to the public via this Website, consists of virtual field trips created by Stanford staff, educators, and K-12 students, lesson plans, and additional resources to support the use and creation of virtual field trips.
This Website is offered for Your use; Your use of it indicates Your agreement to adhere to all the terms and conditions described herein, in the Privacy Policy, in any revisions or amendments to these terms and conditions, and in any future policies as published from time to time on this Website by Stanford.

- Virtual Field Trip Projects.
Some of the virtual field trip projects featured on the website have been created by educators and students unaffiliated with Stanford University. Stanford has reviewed each educator or student project prior to sharing it publicly. Educators who submitted these projects have received lawful consent from students and their parents/legal guardians to publicize these projects.
- Acceptable Use.
By engaging with this Website, you agree not to use it or any featured content in an unlawful, harmful, or fraudulent manner. You agree not to upload any malware or otherwise malicious code or viruses to the Website. You also agree not to disrupt the Website’s operations or security.
Stanford reserves the right to review and edit Website content at any point. - Intellectual Property.

All rights, title, and interest in and to the students’ original virtual field trip projects on the Website shall remain with the students, unless the projects feature copyrighted or trademarked photos, videos, audio, or software elements belonging to third-parties or Stanford University. This Agreement does not transfer to You or to any other third-party intellectual property, right, title or interest in or to the content on the Website. Other than permissible use within fair use legal principles, Your use of the Website grants you no right or license to reproduce or otherwise use any Stanford or third-party patents, copyrights or trademarks. Content will be featured on the website at least through 2030, unless otherwise requested to be removed.
- Changes to Terms of Use.
Stanford reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to modify or replace any part of this Agreement at any time. It is your responsibility to check this Agreement periodically for changes. Notice of material changes to these Terms of Use will be posted at the beginning of these Terms of Use. Your continued access to the Website following the posting of any changes to this Agreement constitutes acceptance of those changes. - Termination.
1. Stanford may terminate Your access to all or any part of the Website at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice, effective immediately. - Disclaimer of Warranties.
The Website is provided “as is.” Stanford disclaims all warranties of any kind, express or implied, including, without limitation, the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Stanford does not make any warranty that the Website will be error free or that access thereto will be continuous or uninterrupted. - Assumption of Risk.
By accessing the Website’s Virtual Field Trips, among other virtual projects, you understand that virtual reality technology and/or virtual reality tools may involve certain risks, including but not limited to, possible negative medical effects such as nausea, dizziness, seizures, disorientation, eye strain, or discomfort. You further acknowledge there may be unknown and non-obvious health and safety risks associated with accessing Content that employs virtual reality tools. By acknowledging these risks, You assume responsibility for participating as a User on the Website.
- Limitation of Liability.
In no event will Stanford be liable with respect to any subject matter of this Agreement under any contract, negligence, strict liability or other legal or equitable theory for: (i) any special, incidental or consequential damages; (ii) the cost of procurement or substitute products or services; or (iii) interruption of use or loss or corruption of data. Stanford shall have no liability for any failure or delay due to matters beyond its reasonable control. The foregoing shall not apply to the extent prohibited by applicable law.
- General Representation and Warranty.
You represent and warrant that: (i) Your use of the Website will be in strict accordance with Stanford’s Administrative Guide Section 1.6.1, with the Stanford Virtual Field Trip Website’s Privacy Policy contained herein, with this Agreement, and with all applicable laws and regulations (including without limitation any local laws or regulations in your state, city, or other governmental area, regarding online conduct and acceptable content, and including all applicable laws regarding the transmission of technical data exported from the United States). Your use of the Website will not infringe or misappropriate the intellectual property rights of any third party.
- Indemnification.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Stanford, its contractors, and licensors, and their respective directors, officers, employees and agents from and against all claims and expenses, including attorneys’ fees and costs, arising out of your use of and access to the Website, including but not limited to your violation of this Agreement.
- Source Code.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Stanford and its code contributors, contractors, licensors, researchers, and all their respective directors, officers, employees and agents from and against all claims and expenses, including attorneys’ fees and costs, arising out of the publishing of Stanford’s source code.
- General Provisions.
This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between You and Stanford concerning the subject matter hereof and may be modified only by a written amendment signed by an authorized executive of Stanford, or by a posting by Stanford of a revised version of these Terms and Conditions of Use. Except to the extent applicable law provides otherwise, any access to or use of the Website will be governed by this Agreement and the laws of the State of California. If any part of this Agreement is held invalid or unenforceable, that part will be construed to reflect the parties’ original intent, and the remaining portions will remain in full force and effect. A waiver by either party of any term or condition of this Agreement or any breach thereof, in any one instance, will not waive such term or condition or any subsequent breach thereof. You may not assign your rights under this Agreement; Stanford however may assign its rights under this Agreement without condition. This Agreement will be binding upon and will inure to the benefit of the parties, their successors and permitted assigns.
- Force Majeure.
Stanford shall not be liable for delays or failures in Website access, use, or content moderation due to causes beyond its control, including but not limited to changes in project scope or management, funding cuts, natural disasters, war, government actions, power outages, network failures, or other unforeseen events.
