Carbon on the Move: Why it Matters

Visit a Redwood forest, play with puppies, and venture to a glacier to learn about how Carbon moves through Earth’s systems.

In this VFT, students:

  • Explore and connect the processes of the carbon cycle (photosynthesis, cellular respiration, decomposition, sedimentation, combustion, and exchange) to real-world settings in which they occur.
  • Learn how these different processes work together to continuously move Carbon throughout Earth’s systems.
  • Build an understanding of the NGSS Disciplinary Core Idea: Cycles of Matter and Energy Transfer in Ecosystems (LS2.B).
  • Designed for Grades 6-12

  • Takes approximately 90 minutes
