Virtual Field Trip Guide #2

Schedule Your Instructional Plan

Concretize your VFT plans on the calendar.

Background

VFT projects are a powerful way for students to show their understanding of science ideas at the end of a unit, so consider when you would like to implement your VFT project for maximum impact.

To-Dos

  1. Review the prerequisite and post-VFT creation lessons.
  2. Map out your plan for when you want to teach each of the lessons in the sequence and record them on your instructional calendar.

Keep in mind:

  • If your students have never created a VFT in ThingLink before, teach the two prerequisite lessons to build essential skills before they get started.
  • VFT creation requires 3-5 hours of work time to complete. This can occur over several class periods, or as homework if students have access to technology outside of the classroom.
  • If you plan to have students collect their own media to use in their VFT, make sure to plan extra time to allow them to do during the creation process in lesson 3.
  • The post-creation feedback and sharing lessons are optional but recommended to allow students to engage in an iterative design cycle and reflect on and share out their work.
